The Courage Campaign has done a great job harnessing the reaction to the passage of Prop 8.

Today they bring to light that former President Clinton will headline an event at a hotel that is not only in dispute with labor but also is owned by a HUGE donor of Prop 8.

How to help after the cut.

URGENT: Ask President Clinton to respect the Manchester Hyatt boycott
President Clinton is scheduled to give a paid speech this Sunday at the Manchester Hyatt in San Diego to the annual convention of the International Franchise Association. Doing so will violate a union boycott and labor dispute -- the workers at the hotel lack job security and the housekeepers face onerous workloads.

But that's not all. President Clinton will also be offending supporters of marriage equality. Doug Manchester, the owner of the hotel, contributed $125,000 in early seed money to the Proposition 8 campaign.

We can't let this happen. President Clinton has the power to move his speech away from the Manchester Hyatt. And you have the power to convince him before it's too late. Please sign this petition to President Clinton immediately and the Courage Campaign and UNITE HERE will do everything in our power to get your signatures to him ASAP:

Clinton should respect the picket lines.

I called his office on Friday ((212) 348-8882) but made little headway. I sent an email to Betsy McManus as follow-up but too little - too late.

I'm not sure if President Clinton is tone deaf or oblivious.

Let us remember that public accommodations are frequently owned by right wingers who would discriminate if they could, but do not any more.
Think of Augusta Ga and golfing.

Think of the fact that commitments are made to Clinton's calendar six months to a year in advance and there is no way to predict a private individuals incorrect, but legal, political donation or union difficulties. Think of security arrangements when even a former president speaks. Where would he go?

Right or wrong we have to defend the right of free speech.

But Clinton couldn't collect his speaking fee if he didn't cross the picket lines! Won't somebody think of poor Chelsea and how she's going to eat her next meal?

And Robert, I have no idea how you're making the connection to free speech rights, but something tells me I don't want to know. :)
