The Indianapolis mating game

I was pleasantly shocked a few weeks ago when the Indianapolis Star solicited my help in finding a "20-something gay couple" for an upcoming feature on Valentine's Day. I quickly called long-time friend (and total hottie!) Josh Verbeke and asked if he and his boyfriend, Jacob Deon, would like to do the spread.

Josh and I have a long history of causing trouble together. We met for the first time when a mutual friend tried to fix us up; due to the circumstances it didn't work and when we "met" again months later, we both had a good laugh about it. When the Cummins Engine Company brouhaha erupted after they started offering domestic partner benefits, Josh joined Jerame, other local activists and me in forming the Columbus GSA group. It was the start to a beautiful friendship. In fact, years later I employed Josh for a short while!

Since I know Josh's work ethic, his brilliance and his commitment to LGBT issues, I'm confident this won't be the last time we see him in the media on behalf of our community. He's an activist to keep an eye on. He'll go far.

Check out Indy.com's The Mating Game and see if you can spot Josh and Jacob.
