Your magic wand open thread

Here's today's open thread question: A fairy (of course) gives you a magic wand. cartoons_53.gifWhen you wave the wand, you will right one injustice in the world - but only one.

Personally, I'm going to opt for a revamping of the world's educational system. The system is set up to keep young people out of the work force as long as possible to concentrate wealth in the hands of older workers. Notice how a college education is practically mandatory now and the sheer number of students seeking higher degrees has increased dramatically; work shadowing and apprenticeships are a better solution and wouldn't require a student to mortgage their future to put even more money in the hands of the ruling generation. It would also solve the problem of who gets an education - females, the poor, etc - since everyone would have the same opportunities to learn a chosen profession.

What do you choose? World hunger? World peace? Global warming? Bring back the Do Do birds?

This is a no-brainer for me, Bil. Total and complete equal rights for ALL LGBT people. It is phrased is such a way that it would include everything and anything we discuss on this blog and many others.

I'd wish for fair distribution of the world's food and medical resources. Unless that counts as two.

Wow Bil.
I guess you are for the repeal of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), that protects workers over 40 from being arbitrarily fired, refused a job, forced to retire, or treated unfairly with respect to pay, promotions, benefits, health care coverage, retirement plans, and other employment opportunities because of age.
Just wait until your partner reaches 40 and is fired to be replaced by a young cute thing just out of college.
It happens very frequently and corporations fire employees before retirement age in order to avoid paying retirement benefits. The business world is a cruel place and good fairies and magic wands don't exist.

Enough locally available clean water and clean nutritious food for everyone in the world. And believe me, that is one thing, not two, because without it you die.

Once we have that, we can start working on other injustices, like war and tyranny. And injustices against LGBT people are part of tyranny.

May I tag on to your comment Patricia? The food needs to be sustainably and locally grown to the maximum degree possible. (transportation and foreign exchange costs) It must be free of pesticides, hybridization and genetic modification that has created pretty, but tasteless and nutritionally lacking, foodstuffs.

I'd choose Equal rights for everyone world wide, not just LGBT.

As you guys have taken all the good ones :)

Housing including sanitary waste management (that will not re enter the ground water) for all countries in the world.

Right now 500 million people in Africa alone suffer from parasites that shorten life. This could be eliminated by a clean home. Today on BBC world one doctor operating in equatorial Africa stated the the medical solution for this would cost .36 cents per person per year.
