SHOCKER!! Gavin Newsom is running for Governor of California. Newsom announced his candidacy over Twitter this morning.
It's official- running for Gov of CA. Wanted you to be the first to know. Need your help. Check out video: http://tr.im/iOCN and ReTweet
Of course, this isn't major news to Projectors. Newsom talked bluntly about his candidacy for the office with contributor Jerame Davis a couple of weeks ago. Newsom backtracked to say he needed to "talk to my wife" before making an official announcement after making definitive statements like, "We're going to need a lot of help - a lot of support. It's going to be a tough race."
Newsom's video statement about his official campaign launch after the jump.
So whattaya think? Would you vote for him?

He's really fond of Sisyphean tasks, it seems.

He has been a total disaster as mayor. He inadvertently helped destroy the one good thing to come out of his administration (and that began as a rather desperate attempt to head off a recall campaign) when he made that completely clueless "Whether you like it or not..." speech.
Let me be among the first to publically announce that I will vote for someone else.

Very ambivalent about him....I know that he is pro-LGBT, but his judgement nd finesse at times seems to be...well, totally absent

I would vote for him if I lived in California. He had been an outstanding supporter of our rights. It will be interesting to see how he handles the gay marriage support.

I will vote for him and I do live in CA. We could all do worse by voting for someone else. One thing is for sure, he is very LGTB friendly...and right now, I will take the one who supports me and my brothers and sisters the most.
Go Gavin!

I like Antonio Villaraigosa better, but that might just be because I volunteered on his first mayoral campaign. He's also very pro-LGBT.
I know they both cheated on their wives, but something about the fact that Newsome did it with his best friend/campaign manager's wife makes me worry he'll be another Spitzer. Lots of promise, tragically wasted when he can't keep it in his pants.
And yes, I know that sex shouldn't be an issue, but it is, and I'm not going to be naive about that.

I think his campaign slogan should be, "I did it to Ruby, I'm doing it to San Francisco, and now I want to do it to all of California, WHETHER LIKE IT OR NOT!!!!!"
He has been a horrible mayor, and I fear what he would be like as governor.
