The Washington Blade has more:

"There hasn't been a voice for ... gay conservatives for the last five months, really, in Washington," LaSalvia said. "And so as that time has lapsed, that was when we made the assessment and determined the need for an organization in Washington and put the pieces in place to make that happen."

LaSalvia also said there will be policy differences between Log Cabin and GOProud, with the new group planning to weigh in more on economic issues before Congress, such as how tax policy affects gay Americans.

"It'll certainly be done from a gay perspective, but we will work on issues beyond hate crimes, [the Employment Non-Discrimination Act] and some of the other standard gay rights legislation," he said.

LaSalvia said GOProud will work to combat Congress and the Obama administration's push for higher taxes. The group also will advocate for the repeal of the estate tax, which he said hits "our families at higher proportion" than other American families.

But LaSalvia said GOProud will be fully supportive of pro-LGBT legislation before Congress, even though these bills may not be a priority for them.

I'm all for gay rights groups looking outside of traditional "LGBT" legislation, like the Task Force is doing in their work on EFCA, which will materially improve the lives of most LGBT people even if the legislation doesn't specifically mention us.

But, uh, the "threat of gays being selectively aborted"? The estate tax? Stopping jobs creation?

I'm failing to see how working on any of those, um, issues would improve even a simple majority of LGBT people's lives, but then again I fail to be Republican.

GOProud even falls into the same-old Republican position of defining anyone who disagrees with them as part of the "left":

"If you pulled the lever for John McCain in 2008, then passing hate-crimes legislation or ENDA [Employment Non-Discrimination Act] is probably not your priority," says Mr. LaSalvia. "Most issues that are defined as 'gay' issues have been defined by the left. We take a different approach."[...]

Whatever else it is, these are not your father's gay Republicans. To the contrary, GOProud springs from a growing dissatisfaction among some gay Republicans that the Log Cabin Republicans, the traditional gay advocacy group within the party, has drifted to the point where its positions are indistinguishable from those of the left. It didn't help when the Washington Blade chimed in with a report that Log Cabin's biggest contributor, Tim Gill, is a Democrat.

It took a lot of work to get here. I'm serious! Who would have thought, even back in the 90's, that there would be gays comfortable enough to be out and organizing among the extreme, know-nothing, $ave-the-rich, iron-fist right?

Reactionary politics will always be with us. There's just something about some people that draws them to simplicity, clear hierarchy, and authoritarianism. And LGBT people (actually, that should probably be G and L, since I couldn't find an instance of someone actually in GOProud describing it as anything other than a "gay and lesbian" or just "gay" org) aren't exempt from that.

We're really everywhere.
