"Monday will be a joyous day.

It's the day the marriage that my spouse, Richard, and I entered into in Vancouver, Canada, in August of 2003 will be recognized by my home, and his adopted, state. I couldn't be happier, nor could we be more certain that the decision we made to move from Seattle to Des Moines to be closer to my family and my aging parents was the correct one. . . .

For most of us, family is the most important thing in our lives. And it is what the gay marriage debate boils down to for most gay and lesbian Iowans. We, like most other Iowans, want to protect our families. That's it."

--Iowan Michael Keller, in the Des Moines Register
