The thing with Keith Boykin is that he knows. He is aware that for the past several years the quality of my life as a young black gay person has declined significantly due to a lack of social/political resources. He knows that since my initial contact with him I've now AGED OUT of the gay youth 18-24 category where lots of social resources I never knew existed lay never having had the benefit of black gay community support. He knows I've faced overt discrimination in school and at work while trying to uplift my black family and still make room for myself as a black gay person. Keith Boykin knows my name. He know my mother is tried, stressed ill. He knows my address. He knows that due to the severe depression I suffer now that I'm in the "thick of it" I cant provide for my family, to help my elderly parents pay for food, shelter, medical supplies and prescriptions they need. Keith Boykin has known black gay men in these situations often have mothers, family and former family friends who look down on them, who accuse them of being irresponsible for choosing to be gay letting the white people get them, He knows the discrimination black gay men face in communities where few blacks or openly gay people thrive. But Keith Boykin even with all his power and social pull refuses to offer a word of encouragement or lift a single digit to help but he's fine with letting his high class gay attorneyboyfriend call me a crack head and a freak. He's got no problem with that.
