Well, since she got quite a bit of coverage on this site, Sarah Palin's resignation deserves at least a mention. Her speech is after the jump, which makes so little sense it's fun to watch. It won't be long before someone autotunes Palin's speech.
Personally, I'm not buying any of the main theories about why she's quitting other than the money she could be making on speaking tours. Sure, there might be another scandal coming, but resigning won't prevent it and she didn't really seem to care about the last few. She says she doesn't want to be a lame duck, but she technically isn't, and if she has so much "executive experience," one would think that she could overcome. If she's running for President in 2012, one would think she'd like to show us that she'll at least finish her first term, something that people were speculating about when even 26-year Senator John McCain was running.
The running theme in Palin's life seems to be an inability to stick with anything. She went to four colleges to get her BA, had several careers before ending up in politics, and now she's leaving her job as governor before she's even fucked an Argentinean (although that wouldn't be a bad idea if she wants to run for President in 2012 - it would effectively double her foreign policy experience).
Consider this your Sarah Palin speculation open thread.
(Can't give credit for the graphic before the jump - I saw it one a few sites but don't know its origin.)

At least she is gone from the job. It should give a good weapon to use should she go for the Whitehouse later. What I find a little funky is that Google put an add for her PAC fundraising right here when I pulled up the page.

She became a lame duck by declaring her lame duckness. It's a psychology as much as as a term limit. She term-limited herself, and more importantly - announced it - way before she needed to. There are elected officials who are technically lame ducks, but if they insist on their relevance, and actively push their agenda throughout their tenure, they aren't treated as such. For example, George W. Bush was technically a lame duck the last four years of his presidency. That didn't slow him down much.
Palin was looking for an excuse to quit. Every governor of Virginia is a lame duck the day he first takes office. They are limited to one term. But nobody doesn't bother to not take the oath of office or go to work. And lots of people work very hard to get the job that by Palin's "logic", wouldn't be worth having.

Her inability to stick with anything makes we wonder if perhaps she will come back in a few years as --- a Democrat? It's been done before. Consider the political journey of Arianna Huffington.

I didn't think we'd have the chance to laugh at Palin for at least another year or so. But oh, she does not disappoint - I can already see the SNL skits. Clearly, Tina Fey's career will never die.

If you can't stand the heat, get out of Alaska! In honor of Palin's departure the state is renaming it famous dessert "Half-Baked Alaska!"

I think we must to all we can to promote and support Sara Palin's future within the Republican Party. It is as good a gift as the combination of Larry Craig and George Bush talking US politics before the Israeli Knesset. Both are totally improper, both are strong enough to stick with the voters and we have a new one. Keep her! She is a gift like Rush Limbaugh and we must keep them strong so they can trip themselves up.

I didn't think it was possible for that train wreck to make any less sense than she has in the past, but this has set a new standard for unintelligiblilty. Wow!

Palin's running from the posse. There's a good possibility of indictments based on the construction of her home in Wasilla at the same time as the Wasilla Sports Complex. You can't outrun the grand jury.
As Hunter Thompson said about another Republican some years ago, Sarah Palin has cashed her check.
Another Repugnican bites the dust.

Dare I ask, is there a female equivalent to "The Peter Principle?"

Let's coin one right now. "The Sarah Doctrine!"

"You won't have Palin to kick around any more"............you've got to be kidding. This circus is in town for the long haul, and thank God. What great comic theatre.

Not kidding, just stealing a similar quotation from Nixon. And we all remember how well resigning turned out for his image....
