From the DC Fox News affiliate:

Police are at the scene of a double stabbing in Northwest Washington that left one man dead and another injured.

Police say two people were stabbed in the 200 block of Q Street Northwest around 3 p.m. One of those victims later died at a hospital, while another is wounded but in stable condition.

D.C. Police sources tell FOX 5 officers found two transgender male victims in front of the building when they arrived. Chief Cathy Lanier would not immediately confirm that information, or say whether or not that was a factor that contributed to the stabbing.

It is not yet known if the two individuals were fighting or if they were stabbed by a third party.

Police are asking for any information from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the stabbing. They were going door-to-door talking to neighbors on Wednesday asking residents for information.

More info as it becomes available.

The Blade is reporting this as two trans women - http://www.washblade.com/thelatest/thelatest.cfm?blog_id=26915 .

"A law enforcement source described the victims as male-to-female transgender people, with one believed to be 18 years old and the other believed to be 27.

The stabbings occurred about two blocks from the North Capitol Street offices of Transgender Health Empowerment, a private social services group that provides drop-in services to transgender people, including transgender youth."

They were trans women. The police failed to use the proper term, instead calling them "transgender males," and local and national media (except for the Blade) just ignored AP style guidlines and uncritically went with it.
