For the longest time I joked that Indiana would vote red even if Saddam Hussein was on the GOP ticket. Then we voted for Obama and the joke never rang the same again.
In all seriousness, though, Indiana's legislative efforts have always been a little more forward and progressive than our decisions on the executive branch. Our representatives in the House and Senate always seem to teeter on the forefront of progressive ideas, often pushing social liberty alongside financial conservatism. These social causes don't come easily, however, and often must be pushed through by the people's voice. (After all, that's what we pay 'em to do, right?) It should come as no surprise that Indiana's representatives represent a huge chunk swing votes on the upcoming ENDA legislation. Namely, both of our Indiana Senators are undecided on ENDA.
How do we change this? The answer is simple: we have to let them know what we think! Please, take a moment to call both senators' offices. It will take five minutes, tops, and your support will go a long way in getting that "yea" vote. ENDA has a strong chance of passing this year, but it's going to come down to a game of inches. Please don't let this opportunity pass us by.
