Brian and David B. over at The Occasional Fag hosted Will Clark and I on their Pod Cast to talk about the IML No-more-bareback-issue which recently came down the pipes.

I thought we had a great conversation. We touch upon a lot of topics surrounding this current event and other talking points which are inextricably entwined to the unsafe bareback sex topic.

Uh, Eric ... I know I'm a techno-dinosaur, but I never realized that two guys could bareback via IM ... duh, am I missing something?

(Is this the killer app that finally forces me to upgrade to Windows Vista?)

I didn't listen, but I'd guess that the many topics and talking points are the old journalist trick of confusing an issue with trivia. And if you think the rugged good looks excuse the vulgarity of treating barebacking with witty banter, you're wrong. This is a deadly serious topic, one that the community has side stepped for decades.
Promiscuous bare backing is a savage, heartless practice and a disgrace to the community.
Sorry if that wasn't genteel enough. I'm a bit tired, after 30 years, of all the self serving bulls--t.

Then I suggest you work with allies instead of walking in and opening your mouth before knowing the facts. Eric is a tireless force against barebacking. He's written several blog posts that have ran here (let alone his own site - which is what got him invited on the podcast), has made commercials and videos, and spoke before many groups. He's an advocate - not just rugged good look with witty banter.

Or then again, you could just listen to the podcast before judging the author, the topic, and the podcast just because you're tired. Cuz, get off the cross, we all need the wood. Eric's working to end barebacking in a real and substantive way; you're bitching that he's not doing enough based on a podcast you didn't listen to.

Genteel enough?

You should really listen to something before attacking it. I know Eric is a strong voice against barebacking... and if the phenomenon is occurring, you need to have conversations about it in order to stop it. "Just say no" didn't work for drugs in the 80's and won't work for barebacking now.

JFTR, I'm on a dial-up line in rural Indiana and when I click on the podcast link I get "500 - Internal Server Error" ... so I didn't listen either ... but I did try.

(On what steps of what state agency should I imollate myself to demand affordable universal broadband access for rural Indiana?)

Of course, I posted my stupid joke anyway.

You're right. I should work with allies. And I'm sorry that came out as a personal attack. But after 25 years of rationalizations, it's not clear who our allies are.
Speaking of rationalizations, why is unsafe crossed out and replaced with bareback? It looks like someone is saying that barebacking is safe. Either that, or the message is being sugar coated, yet again, for a group of heartless queens.
We tried the nice approach. It didn't work, and thousands suffered. After decades of that, I don't have time to be polite on the issue. If that's the way you all want to go, fine. Be respectful while thousands more suffer. I'll just bow out of the argument.
