"I think that [Obama] is smart and he's playing the field and taking... I mean, health care is more important than marriage, because marriage is stupid anyway. I don't think that gay marriage is where he needs to start, that's how I feel, and as a gay I think you've got to pick your battles and I think that he's already got so much shit against him and people are already judging him that I don't think it's a priority.

"I think we've got to end a war, we've got to get health care, we've got to get out of whatever, and I don't think he's going to win any... I think it's a political strategy, I don't think he's a hater."

-- Gossip singer Beth Ditto in an interview with Absolute Radio at Reading Festival.

Well put, Ms. Beth Ditto!

We must indeed choose our battles as queer people, and marriage ain't gonna save us - it's merely a distraction privileged people in the community are using to pursue their own ends, not the meet the needs of an entire community, let alone the whole society of human beings called Americans who need so desperately REAL healthcare.

Hello social justice, goodbye gay marriage! Go Beth!!

Now, why does this rambling twitspeak sound familiar? Oh yes, I remember now -- Miss Teen South Carolina Lauren Caitlin Upton:

“I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to [locate their own country on a map] because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and I believe that our education, like, such as in South Africa and Iraq and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for us.”
