A friend of Alberto's from St. Etienne is visiting, so it reminded me that there is actually a gay pop star in France from St. Etienne (seriously). He goes by Sliimy, and he started his musical career on YouTube.

Here's is his cute stop-motion video for "Wake Up," and his cover of Britney Spears's "Womanizer" is after the jump.

This is "Womanizer" from Sliimy's pre-album days, when he was just a YouTube sensation.

And for the francophones out there, here he is on Le Grand Journal. It's funny how a couple people get uptight about the fact that he started on new media, as if that's a threat to the music industry itself. Oh, wait, it is.

Sliimy reads a few of the comments he receives on YouTube before singing "Everytime" here. I love the third one: "Sliimy, I love your music. But it's too bad you're a big faggot." Gotta love YouTube commenters, who are apparently the same the world over.
