Today, DC Council Member David Catania will introduce a bill legalizing marriage between same-sex couples in the District. The bill will be introduced with ten of thirteen members of the Council co-sponsoring the bill.
There has been little opposition to marriage equality in DC except from Maryland based pastor Harry Jackson and the National Organization for Marriage which recently moved its headquarters from New Jersey to DC.
The bill will easily pass the Council and, despite Jackson's call for an initiative to ban marriage, the possibility of a Prop 8 style ballot fight is unlikely.
The bigger challenge will be fending off possible Congressional intervention.
