At Ramapo College of Ramapo pride logo 2.jpgNew Jersey, where I teach, we're taking three vans down to the National Equality March on Saturday morning. I am so excited! And more importantly, so are they.

They are psyched!

You wouldn't believe what they did to get tickets.

35 tickets were on sale at our Ramapo ticket office in the student center. Well, not really on "sale," since the event is a student event. But for events like this, students have to put down a $5 deposit, which they get back when they show up on the bus.

Tickets went on sale last Thursday morning. The ticket office opens at 10. We're a school of about 5,000 students. The Pride group has a bunch of members, but I didn't think there even were 35.

At 5:00 a.m., students started arriving at the ticket office with sleeping bags. They bedded down in front of the ticket office, and waited patiently until the office opened.

By 10:05, all the tickets were gone.

This is going to be so much fun! I hope the students on my van know that we're going to sing songs. Oh yes, Professor Weiss is very queer indeed. :) I was thinking stuff like "This Land Is Your Land" and "Blowin in the Wind" and "If I Had a Hammer" and "This Little Light of Mine." Any other suggestions?

CU n DC!

I look forward to meeting you. If it has a T in it, I'll be at the event. The Task Force is planning an ENDA workshop. The time will be non conflicting with other Saturday events presently planned (90 minutes some time between Noon and 2 PM). The place is still TBD. If you can make it, we'd love to have you say a few words on your fabulous grass roots work.

New Jersey colleges are going to be very well represented! I know TCNJ is taking two buses, and I'm one of the leaders of the Princeton contingent--we've got a bus and an associated convoy of vans and cars for overflow, about 80 students all told.

Do you know "We Shall Not Be Moved?" That's a good one. And "We Shall Overcome" is mandatory. :)

I was one of those sleeping bag students!

YEA ME TOO!! it was so worth it :D

I suggest singing an old Holly Near song, We Are a Gentle, Angry People. One of the versus is "We ar ea gay and lesbian people". At an event at hte 1979 March, (unles smy memory fials, I think it wa sthen) Near performed htat song. After the"gay and lesbian" verse, she asked lal the straight people int he audience to stnad up and sing "we are a gay and lesbian people".
