Virginia Senator Jim Webb is a friend and supporter of ENDA. He has privately indicated his support for ENDA. webb.jpgGreat News.

It's time for him to come out publicly in favor of ENDA.

We've got 40 co-sponsors of ENDA, and another 9 confirmed yes votes on ENDA. But not all of them have come out with their support. Will they publicly state their support, to help us bring in the unconfirmed and the fence-sitters? Will they continue to support ENDA when crunch time comes, or will their support crumble when the time comes to decide if the bill should go to the Senate floor for a vote? What will Senator Webb do?

Contact info and more after the jump.

Senator Webb has a fairly good record record when it comes to our community. He voted for the hate crimes bill, which is good. He supports other LGBT bills, and his HRC scorecard, which measures how Congressmembers have voted on issues of equality, was 85% in the 110th Congress.

I spoke with a member of our Inclusive ENDA Facebook group back in June about Senator Nelson, who told me that he had spoken to Senator Webb's people. He was assured that the Senator supports ENDA.

Now it's time for a more public statement of support. Let's not wait until crunch time to find out where he stands.

Please call Senator Jim Webb of Virginia to thank him for his support of ENDA, and ask if his office can confirm his support for S1584. You may get a staffer who is unaware of the Senator's position on ENDA. Take a moment to explain what it is, and to ask if he or she can get some information on the Senator's position. Tell us what they said in the comments below.

1. What does it mean when a legislator "supports" an issue? Is he fighting like hell to make it law or is he just answering a questionnaire sent to him prior to an election?

2. I'm kind of tired of "thanking" legislators for doing what they should be doing in the first place. They're richer than I am and don't need my pat on the back. Let's thank our community for standing up, fighting back, and pressuring these politicians to put their votes where they're mouths are.

I spoke to a staff person today. All she said was that Senator Webb has not made any public statements about ENDA.
