I just bought the Cameo Anthology this week - two discs of extreme funk. Mainly I was thinking of their biggest hit, "Word up," which has been covered over a dozen times. It's a great song, and I think a lot of singers just love shouting "Word up," but the bass guitar riff that gets repeated throughout the song is brilliant.

Anyway, I can't find any proof that Larry Blackmon, Cameo's front man, was queer, so he won't be a QMF any time soon. But I do have my reasons to suspect (check out the live performance of the same song after the jump).

Sill, there's the video for "Word up," which I just looked up yesterday on YouTube.... I can see why Kenyon Farrow called it the "gayest video in the history of humankind." Long have I wondered what would happen if a shirtless go-go dancer felt up Lavar Burton, and now I know what it'd look like.
