David David-Huebner-head-2.jpgHuebner will be sworn in today by Vice President Joe Biden at 3:45pm, EST in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building wing of the White House. He becomes the first politically appointed openly gay Senate-confirmed ambassador in US history.

Guests are requested to arrived at 3:00pm for security screening. Brian Bond is the contact person at the White House.

The event will be webcast live.

Following the swearing in, there will be a reception thrown by Huebner's law firm, Sheppard Mullin - Huebner has been the head of their China Practice - at the famous Hay Adams Hotel, which is directly across Lafayette Square from the White House.

This is both a celebration and a farewell party since Huebner must leave for Wellington first thing Saturday morning.

Duane-McWaine.jpgMarking the special occasion with Huebner will be his longtime partner Duane McWaine, his family and many friends, including many from his home in Los Angeles.

There is a long story about why I am not in attendance, as a reporter who has known and covered Huebner for almost two decades. But Kerry Eleveld from The Advocate and a reporter and photographer from the DC Agenda, dcagenda.com/ the newspaper that replaced the Washington Blade, will cover, as will a pool reporter. I have several friends attending, as well, and hope to have candid photos later.

Below is the official invitation - minus the State Department seal affixed to the invitation as sent out. However, this is the seal under which Huebner will now travel as Ambassador.
