Seeing this vintage postcard reminded me that this was a popular joke when I was a kid, and, albeit briefly, a popular subject of het male speculation. I think I'll go back to blocking that memory now.

nothing vintage about this i'm afraid. (isn't that comic sans?)

I'm pretty sure this is actually from a manga called Short Cuts by Usamaru Furuya.

I kind of question the sexism of it, though; it always seemed to me to be a referendum on the value of sex vs. companionship. Which, as I am given to understand by some of my het male friends, is often a constant tug-of-war. Or to be even more crass, a comparison of oral vs. vaginal/anal sex.

Yours is certainly the gentlest reaction I've heard. Most of the time I saw this come up in high school, the responses were more akin to, "with #2 I get pussy and don't have to listen to her jabber all the time!" If only I had had the self-awareness at the time to understand why I took it as a personal attack.

If it were a merman, I'd totally go for the normal merman. Gotta have hands.

I'd choose the regular ole mermaid. I'd want someone to talk to.
