Yes, WorldNetDaily is a insane fundie site, peddling in birthers, birchers, and *fill in the blank*-phobes of every stripe. It's really no wonder they have the nickname WorldNutDaily.
Sometimes, however, you have to look at what they are saying, the impact it can have, and real world consequences. As insane as they are, they represent a very real segment of the population and are the natural outgrowth empowered by anti-LGBT movements and legislation.
With that said, I give you this scary bit of fundie nuttery from Molotov Mitchell. Note how it weaves in Martin Luther King Jr quotes and 'patriotic' language:
While WorldNetDaily may seem like a punchline to many of us who follow the sheer madness of rabid fundamentalist bigots, they are the most popular and widely read "Christian" site in the country.
This is isn't just some "Obama is a secret muslim terrorist with a Hitler mustache" rant. This is a widely read site supporting the murder of gay people. It is a popular Christian site giving political cover (and a slickly-made video) to the Ugandan "Kill-the-Gay" forces that are under mounting pressure to kill their odious anti-homosexuality bill.
While people like Maggie Gallagher may claim they are "reasonable" and don't hate gay people, videos like this are the natural bookend of their dehumanizing, demonizing campaigns that paint LGBT people as predators out to get your children or deviant monsters bent on destroying the fabric of civilization as we know it. The two cannot be separated.
Mitchell's ranting is yet another another example of the recent ramping up of violently anti-gay rhetoric from the Christianist right. The American Family Association thinks gays should all be imprisoned and forcibly subjected to "reparative therapy." The Family Research Council says that gays are inherent rapists who can't be trusted around soldiers. Mission America says that protecting gay kids from beatings in school is a fascist idea. And now a columnist from the most widely read Christian site in the nation is calling for us to be put to death.
