"marie osmonds poor gay son killed himself because he had been told how wrong and how sick he was every day of his life by his church and the people in it. Calling that "depression" is a lie! Yet the Osmonds still talk lovingly about their church, saying nothing about its extremely anti-gay Crusade. Marie also has a gay daughter! Hey, I want her and all the gay kids in the world to know that they are just fine being gay and that they deserve love and respect instead of insults and rebuke!... Marie please don't talk about how your faith in your church has helped you get through this one! Please get some integrity and tell that church of yours that you will leave it and stop giving it ten percent of your money if they don't stop trying to destroy your kids' and all gay people's civil rights and dreams and hopes!!"

-- Rosanne Barr writing on her blog about the death of Marie Osmond's gay son. The Osmonds are Mormons.

A mother has lost her son and we are sitting round making snippy comments about her faith and the Mormon church's policies againt homosexuality?

Do we know for a fact that he killed himself over his sexual orientation?
Has anyone seen the note?
Is Marie Osmond's attitude towards her son's sexuality on record?

Also has anyone here considered for one moment the anguish of having to choose between the love for your child and the love of your church and your deeply held faith?

A parent having to bury their child is one of the true tragedies in this world, could we please try not score political points from it?

In my opinion, anyone who has "to choose between the love for your child and the love of your church and your deeply held faith" is a very weak person with little to contribute to our evolving society.

I also had wondered about the sexuality of Marie's son, but have no idea of its truth, so I think Roseanne is a bit off to make such a charge. However, I have to agree that the church can certainly lead parents to drive their children to this type of desperation, if true. I have personally dealt with young men who have had both sides of the coin thrown at them and it's very sad when parents take the word of a church and abandon their own children.

I hope there are no points trying to be made on the death of a person. I don't know if her son was Gay and it said that she also has a Gay daughter, too. If this is all true, I do hope Marie tries to make sense of her religion and the life that she has. We all know that the Morman church is anti LBGTQ. What has happened is and always will be a tragedy. Only she has to live with this.

roseanne needs to keep her comments to herself; at a time when a family is mourning the loss of a loved one, you don't go around bashing them; you can love someone with all your heart and not agree with what they things they do. i think roseanne is a has been and just wants some publicity, no caring human being would say such painful things, whether rooted in truth or not, all the more reason we havent heard from roseanne in a long time and hopefully we wont hear anymore from her in the future.
