After Equality California and the Courage Campaign endorsed 2012 as the year to repeal Prop 8 in California, people didn't think that the orgs left in the 2010 had the resources to get enough signatures to get on the ballot. The deadline was Monday:
Los Angeles-based Love Honor Cherish carried out a volunteer-driven signature-gathering effort after large groups decided there was not enough time to ensure victory this year, even with some polls showing more than 50 percent support for same-sex marriage.
A 150-day period to gather signatures to place the question on the ballot ended on Monday.
There's no reason to believe that these folks are going to stop, so hopefully volunteers' attention in California will be directed towards door-knocking and campaigning their neighbors. I'll be happy when they get this through and I'm cheering for 2012; getting marriage checked off the LGBT agenda would provide a whole lot of clarity to this here movement.
