"Ok - let's do it Obama's way. One right of marriage at a time. Only 1136 more strokes of the pen to go and same-sex couples won't need to get married."

-- A Facebook friend in response to an e-mail thread about President Obama's memo instructing the government to enforce hospital visitation rights for same-sex couples.

I absolutely love this. Sure, the extra right is nice, but it should have been there in the first place. We really need a gay equivalent of Loving v. Virgina.

Why must we always find a way to turn good news into bad news? Yes, I'm impatient too, and this sort of thing would have been common sense in a just world unlike our own, and all of those other things, but aren't we allowed to be happy about anything? There's a difference between recognizing that there's still more work to be done and being Debbie Downer.
