Lately, we've been heard telling people that beauty pageant queens, porn stars and drag queens are the NEW Gold Celebrities of 2010
...and talking with Jason Sechrest, owner and developer of JasonCurious.com, couldn't make this more true! He is the most prolific, honest and creative porn reviewer of our times!
We've REALLY been excited about doing this interview for some time...probably because this guy sits in the exact spot that we would love to have!!! But, he was the first and there can only be one first...Jason Sechrest is an anomaly!
Arena Magazine listed him as one of the most powerful people in the gay porn industry and he has also been called "The Oprah of Porn"! Jason has also hosted one of the longest running shows, The Jason Sechrest Show on the KSEX radio station, which no longer exists!
We've done so many interviews, and when you get to do an interview that actually catches you away, makes you learn a little bit about the world and think differently; well...that's a damn good interview! This was a damn good interview!

1. Your website JasonCurious.com states, "He's not a porn star...he's just curious about them!". How would you define your website and your job running it?
My web site is a reflection of my life and my career in adult entertainment, so that means it's constantly evolving and its mission changes regularly. When I started, I was more of an outsider looking in so I was able to be more like Perez Hilton, more gossipy and even negative. That was my schtick for a few years. But then, being the first gay porn blogger with JasonCurious.com really launched me into becoming a full time employee in adult entertainment. I could no longer write from an outsider's perspective because I was a full-time publicist, journalist and host in that world. I also decided I wanted to contribute something more positive to portray some of the things I really love about the industry. I can still get snarky at times. (laughs) But it's less and less it seems. There's enough of that elsewhere. I just wanna entertain people.
2. What led to you working in the porn business?
I was a big fan of B-movie horror films as a teenager and I submitted an article I wrote about the actresses in them to Femme Fatales. They liked it so much they took me on as a regular columnist. What they didn't know was that I was 15 years old! So I was doing interviews with like Linda Blair from "The Exorcist" and no one had any idea I was a sophomore in high school. It led to me freelancing for other magazines like A&E's Biography and Entertainment Weekly.
I moved to Los Angeles shortly after graduating high school and was practically living on the streets so I called everyone I ever interviewed and it was the B-movie actresses who also were porn girls who actually called back, not Linda Blair if you can imagine that. They took me under their wing and before I knew it, I had an office, a desk, a phone extension and a window at Danni's Hard Drive, writing erotica and a porn gossip column under a female pseudonym! I was inspired enough by what they were doing there to eventually leave and start my own thing.

3. Have you ever done porn?
No, I've had offers, especially when I was younger. I was very torn for a long time about it too. Part of me wanted to do it. But I'm so glad I never did. It's just not for me. I was put in this industry to do many jobs and that's just not one of them. It's not as fun as it looks, you know? It can be pretty unglamorous. And truthfully, it can be hard work and for not a lot of money. That's part of why I became a manager. I think porn stars deserve as much money as the studio can afford to give them. They're the ones putting their health, their bodies, their reputations, their lives essentially on the line. It takes a special person to be able to do that.
4. Who are your pick for top three gay porn stars of ALL time?
I haven't been around for all time so that would be unfair of me to answer. I can tell you who the top three have been for me personally since I got into the business. I think Erik Rhodes, Brent Everett and Mason Wyler are probably the best performers I've ever seen. Beautiful people are a dime a dozen, but these guys are iconic figures because they can perform under any circumstance, they are edgy, they push their own sexual boundaries and another thing you might notice about all three of them is that they're all very humble. Humility is hot in men. If you can find a way to be confident and humble that's what makes your fans melt. The guys who are arrogant or cocky? It's just a mask for their own insecurity. And that's not sexy.

5. Who are your pick for top three straight porn stars of ALL time?
For girls I don't know if I can really narrow it down to three. There's so many amazing performers. If more gay guys watched straight porn, they'd be better in bed. Tyler Faith, Jenna Jameson, Ginger Lynn, Nina Hartley, Jill Kelly, Tina Tyler, Jenna Haze, Brittany Andrews... these girls know how to perform! They really built this industry we all work in.
For guys, I think Julian, Chris Evans and Erik Everhard are my faves. Again, confident and humble. They make me weak in the knees when I'm around them.
6. Does being such an integral part of the sex industry make you immune to the pleasures of sex? Do you ever get bored with sex?
I used to say no, but I'm 30 now so things change. I'm not bored with sex, but it takes more than a beautiful guy to make me want to get it on with him. I'm not attracted to someone because of how they look anymore and that's probably a great thing about working in this industry. I'm attracted to people because of what they like more than what they look like. Chemistry.
7. Who are three people in the sex industry you MUST know to get anywhere?
There is no one you must know to get anywhere. I knew no one and have done just fine. I even pissed all the important people off for a few years.
8. If you were going to have us interview three people that could educate us the most on the porn industry who would they be...and could you set up those interviews for us? :-)
I probably could! Nina Hartley. Chi Chi LaRue. Larry Flynt.
9. How do you feel the porn industry has been affected by the internet?
I think it turned DVD studios on their head for a few years, but I think they're coming out of it. DVD sales are slowly starting to go up again and there's so much competition on the Internet now that site sales are not what they once were either. The piracy is an awful thing but here's what we all have to remember. The people who buy porn will always buy porn. The people who will never buy porn, never will no matter what the movie is. Just because they can't get it doesn't mean they're gonna buy it! Either you buy porn or you don't. I think that's probably 80% the case the most of the time.

10. Last book you read?
I'm currently reading "Nano" by Rav Berg and "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King.
11. Three television shows you watch on a regular basis?
Family Guy, The Office and I love reruns of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
12. We see you also have career aspirations as a singer and a comedian. Tell us about how those fit into your life?
I don't know if they're aspirations really. I am happy with the career I have. I have to do things outside of adult entertainment though sometimes to continue appreciating it so I do put time into my hobbies like singing and acting when I can.
13. You were born in Columbus, Indiana...home state of the boys of raannt! How do you feel that being from the Midwest affects who you are today?
I think the values I learned in the Midwest are still really important to me - family, loyalty, honesty, spirituality. But I think the small mindedness and intolerance I experienced as a young kid in the Midwest might have really lit a fire within me to go out into the world and try to change those things.

14. You have been named as one of the top 50 most powerful people in the porn industry...who do you think are the top two?
I remember that article in ARENA Magazine! To be named that in a mainstream magazine was a real honor. I think the top two most powerful people in adult entertainment are probably the ones with the best lawyers. Maybe Larry Flynt and Hugh Heffner.
15. How do you feel about being referred to as the "Oprah of porn"?
Are you kidding? I love it! Who wouldn't? "You get a porno. You get a porno. You get a porno!"
16. Tell us something about you that we wouldn't know by looking at you?
I get really scared every time someone puts a microphone in my hand or anytime I have to go on stage or in front of a camera. Once I start talking, it goes away but in the moment before I never think I'm actually going to make it through.
17. If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life and it couldn't be a mixed CD,what would it be?
"The Immaculate Collection" - which was Madonna's first greatest hits. I don't know if I could live without it.
18. Are you in a relationship? What do you look for in a partner?
I look for someone who can be selfless and more importantly, someone who makes me want to be selfless, both of which are incredibly difficult to find. I have no desire to be in a relationship just for the sake of having someone to hold or to hold me. I've never been a person who "needs" someone. I'm very self-sufficient. And I don't know that I really understand the whole concept of dating. I don't get why I should go to dinner with someone I hardly know when I have such little free time to spend with my best friends. I'd rather go to dinner with them.

19. Favorite Romance movie of all time? Horror? Drama? Comedy?
Romance: "Moulin Rouge!"
Horror: "Psycho"
Drama: "North By Northwest"
Comedy: "The Goodbye Girl"
20. Boxers, Briefs, Jockstrap...or nothing at all?
I almost never wear underwear. Unless tanning! I think tan lines are sexy but then I grew up in the 80's and 90's. lol
