But The Bouncer was a rather strange superhero. He was a statue of Antaeus, the Greek mythological giant (son of Poseidon and Gaia.) The statue would animate to life as Antaeus (spelled Anteas in the comic) whenever his sculptor called on him.
Like the Greek giant, Antaeus had superhuman strength only when in contact with the Earth. Unfortunately, he tended to bounce back if he jumped or bounded, leaving him in the air (and without strength) at inopportune times. http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/b/bouncer.htm
