As activists walked the halls of Congress on Wednesday to speak with Hill staffers about the AIDS Drug Assistance Program crisis, the problem was no longer limited to just numbers of people on a wait list with no end in sight. These brave activists put a face to the issue and reminded staffers that the fear of losing access to lifesaving medications for people living with HIV/AIDS is very real.
Come this October, Illinois residents may possibly lose all funding for their state AIDS programs. Arick Buckles, a 38-year old male from Chicago who is a member of the Illinois Alliance for Sound AIDS Policy, was at the Capitol today to share his story. During our visit with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Arick teared up while sharing his fears with a staffer.
