Someone recently called me "eclectic." I guess that's better than "mad as a hatter." Hm.

Anyway, among my multitudinous quirks, I've lately developed a fascination with images from the sideshows and circuses of old, and particularly with the people who found employment there. It was a safe place for many people who, whether by appearance, ability, or other reasons, could not find acceptance in the straight world, including bearded ladies and transsexed performers. It was also one of the few professions which welcomed women into its ranks.

If you're interested, you may view my whole collection of vintage sideshow photos on Facebook.

After the jump are two beautiful banners by legendary sideshow artist, Snap Wyatt.

Shame I've got to run off to a meeting in D.C., or I'd pop some popcorn and wait for the intersex activists to descend on this post! Honestly, rapping a "straight world" is unnecessary, as most LGB people would have a hard time incorporating into their binary-driven worlds many of the gender-variant, intersex, supernumerary-appendaged people on exhibit in old-school sideshows.

Gloria, when I click on the link for the photo collection, it tells me "page not found". Just FYI.

Well, now I know how to get a date. Where is this Snapp Wyatt, and where can I find him or her?

I think I'd prefer the "mad as a hatter" designation personally. It sounds much cooler.

I know that's a problem I have, deciding which bath to go to in Turkey.

Oops, Sean, sorry 'bout that. It should be working now.
