The Trouble with Women: Vintage ads

Stereotypes of women in vintage ads never cease to amaze. Here, two pre-feminist ads which more or less the traditional patriarchal view of what's wrong with females.

First, we're very emotional. This woman, for example, just learned about the Tea Party.

Second, we smell. That's putting it nicely. In fact, the stench of our alimentary canal requires that we be sanitized and deodorized more often than public toilets.

An interesting note, the root of the word hysteria is 'hyster' meaning uterus, and originated as a theory that if a woman wasn't knocked up, her uterus would float around her body and make parts of it go out of control. The proposed cure? Marriage and constant pregnancy. Because if women aren't knocked up, they'll go wild and destroy everything!

Also, doctors would treat hysterical women by giving them orgasms. I have always found that amusing.

Really? Is there a doctor willing to provide that treatment to hysterical men? I can throw a fit.

Oh wait, there is such a person who provides that service, but they're not covered by my health care plan....

Women should also not read or read any book other than the Bible. Too much reading, especially novels or anything with serious political or social content, will draw blood to the woman's brain, away from her uterus and genitalia. A woman's reproductive organs need as much blood as they can get to propagate the species.

Ladies, if you are reading this--turn off your computers now and never read anything ever again! You are depriving your reproductive organs of vital, life-giving fluids.
