Right after the cloture vote failed on the repeal of DADT yesterday, blogger Joe Jervis reported getting a comment that said, "All faggots must die" from an IP address traceable to Senator Saxby Chambliss' Atlanta office. Senator Chambliss confirmed to the Atlanta Journal Constitution that the comment came from his office and that they were starting an internal investigation and issued the following statement:
"We have seen the allegations and are moving quickly to understand the facts. This office has not and will not tolerate any activity of the sort alleged," Chambliss spokeswoman Bronwyn Lance Chester said. "Once we have ascertained whether these claims are true, we will take the appropriate steps."
We'll see what the investigation brings, but I wonder if anyone has pointed out the blindingly obvious connection between filibustering a bill that would remove discrimination from our laws and the obvious logical extension to anti-gay slurs and death threats. After all, if we're not worthy of basic job protections, surely no one would miss us if we were all killed off. It's the perfect solution! Maybe the GOP can add that to their plank and save themselves the trouble of filibustering.
