Is it safe to be gay under the Big Sky?

Fuck no.

47323_1497572092628_1633910917_1209766_154427_n.jpgTim Ravndal, a Montana loud-mouthed Right-wing Tea Party darling hosts a conversation on his Facebook page where he comments on an article by the Billings Gazette on the lawsuit by the Montana ACLU by seven same-sex couples, condones torture and hanging of "fruits" and makes explicit inference to Matthew Shepard's murder.

Am I serious?

Dead serious.

Transcript after the jump.

Transcript:

Tim Ravndal: "Marriage is between a man and a woman period! By giving rights to those otherwise would be a violation of the constitution and my own rights"

Kieth Baker: "How dare you exercise your First Amendment Rights?"

Dennis Scranton: "I think fruits are decorative. Hang up where they can be seen and appreciated. Call Wyoming for display instructions."

Tim Ravndal: "@Kieth, OOPS I forgot this aint(sic) America no more! @ Dennis, Where can I get that Wyoming printed instruction manual?"

Dennis Scranton: Should be able to get info Gazette archives. Maybe even an illustration. Go back a bit over ten years."

Disgusting.

I found it here.

and there's even more homophobic facebook shenanigans:

And this guy's running for State Senate.

Beh.

Sad to say, my home state was always a place where some citizens aimed to solve perceived "social" and "political" problems by holding a private "necktie party" at the nearest cottonwood tree. Going back to the Vigilantes of the 1860s and the Stranglers of the 1880s. Today the neo-Stranglers want to hang Indians from the nearest cottonwood tree, and Muslims, and Mexicans, and anybody else who isn't white or their brand of Christian, and yeah, they want to hang gays on the nearest branch too. I'm glad to see that some Montanans, at least, are starting to organize in outrage against these vigilantes.

Vigilantes? How many do you think there are now? Maybe compared to the 1860s? This crazy idiot is a Baptist not a vigilante and they are going out of business. he has NO power over us. None.

The sky isn't falling, it's clearing.

Wow! Hopefully the pendulum will swing back to center before these extremists get more representation.

That's why we need to shine a national spotlight on these haters.
Please spread the word.

Anyone know Rachel Maddow?

On these "haters?" Is that all you've got. He is a Baptist. He believes God told him we are defective and sinners.

You know religion. Don't simply call it "haters," he was taught to hate. That is what Baptists do. That is what Christians do.

This is truly terrifying. It's not that I ever believed that some Montanans never thought this way, it's that it's expressed so boldly as part of political organizing and generating voter response. I'm ill. It's like the Klan moving into your state.

They'll do it as long as they can get away with it.
These kind of people have shamed LGBT people for so long, I wonder what it'll be like if we can shame them....

This thug is clearly a menace and danger to society and needs to be locked up.

Every LGBT in Montana needs to arm and get lessons on how to use a firearm www.pinkpistols.org.

This is simply horrific. These hate-mongers are living proof of what the Tea Party of Denny Rehberg and the Montana GOP are really all about (as if we didn't know.) So glad you are spreading the word on this.

Wait, the Tea Party has homophobes in its midst? I'd never know that from mainstream pundits who tell me that they're just focused on economic issues!

Paige Listerud | September 6, 2010 12:47 AM

Focussed on economic issues--does that mean they will hang if only if they can afford to buy the rope?

You are right about the TEA party being interested in economics. They want us dead so that they can continue their dominionist christian policy for white heterosupremists and beget more white heterosupremist children who will need our jobs. Yes, they are about money, their money and to take our money, our jobs and our lives.
