After I reported that Stan Solomon, the campaign manager for Republican teabagger Marvin Scott's 7th congressional campaign, has been tweeting incredibly offensive anti-gay and xenophobic statements, Indiana Stonewall Democrats issued a statement calling for Solomon's termination.
The Scott campaign, long mired in anti-Muslim bigotry itself, has indicated they are considering cutting Solomon loose. Scott told WISH-TV 8 [CBS]:
"I don't know what he wrote, so I can't comment on it. But I do want to say I apologize to that community," said Scott. "I'm disappointed to hear this, and I am taking steps to remedy that."
Asked what remedies he's considering Scott answered, "I wouldn't like to say that, but it's the way any administrator would act when there's a loose cannon on the ship."
Watch the WISH-TV report after the jump and look for the candidate's responses. He actually seems shocked and automatically apologizes - albeit to "that community." I love the reporter's question at the end. "Will Marvin Scott fire his unpaid volunteer campaign manager?" Sadly, she doesn't give Bilerico credit even though she's holding a copy of my post in her hands as she interviews Scott.
Read ISD's statement after the jump too; it's well worth the read. You can also see other screenshots of the tweets here.

I don't think so, Bil. As I blogged just a couple hours ago, Scott posted on his Facebook page that "Mr. Solomon has apologized."
WHOA THERE MARVIN! LETS NOT DO ANYTHING DRASTIC!

True Matt. Although I wonder who he apologized to since he's still on Twitter not acting very apologetic... I'll keep following this story. Any help in publicizing it is appreciated.
I've heard through postings on Facebook that Maddow does a semi-regular segment on smaller House races where controversy happens. Her e-mail is Rachel@msnbc.com.
I'll also message one of the writers for Alan Colmes' blog at http://www.alan.com.
I'll admit that I didn't think this story was going to go anywhere, but ya'll have done good so far. Pretty big impact on the blogosphere, and Wish-TV, the state and national Stonewall Democrats picked up on it as well.
And Solomon has resigned. WRTV6 even includes a link to Bilerico.

Alan Colmes picks up on this story after I e-mailed him on Facebook: http://www.alan.com/2010/09/14/campaign-manager-for-indianapolis-gop-congrsdsional-candidate-resigns-after-anti-gay-tweets/
Well, Marvin Scott didn't come off as crazy in that video, that's a start.
But you've got to wonder about these people who hire a mini-Rush Limbaugh to be responsible for their messaging and then are "surprised" when they say something offensive. As I understand it, didn't Solomon make a career out of being offensive?
That's why we need the mainstream media to be talking about these things more. The far right has gone off the deep end. They need someone to remind them that we do live in a civilization.
http://twitter.com/matthewltully/status/24496954987 there is still some question as to whether or not Stan Solomon has actually resigned.
