Anti-gay bullying also targets girls

Even though her mother says she's not gay, this is still homophobic bullying (transcript available at the link):

Again, what is the school doing to fight this sort of bullying? What programs are in place to teach kids not only that violence is wrong, but that homophobia is wrong and that girls don't exist as play-things for boys? Accountability can't happen in a vacuum; these tragedies should inspire proactive, reality-based anti-bullying education.

I thought it was a given that anti-gay bullying targets girls. I was never beaten up, but the bullying was enough to cause panic attacks and skipped classes. I was close to ending up a runaway.

Yes, I do consider it a given that anti-gay bullying can target girls, too. Even though all the recent suicides were males, there is still just no doubt that we want to eliminate all forms of bullying for both boys and girls.
