Lovers or Goofballs? Vintage dancing men

I keep finding strange private shots of men dancing, which is lovely. What would be even lovelier if is if I had a clue about what's going on. Unfortunately, about 90% of the stuff I post on Bilerico comes out of private estates and collections - sold by people who often have even less of a clue than me about their goods.

The photo after the jump was listed as "gay men dancing" but realistically it could just be guys clowning around. They make a cute couple even if they didn't make out afterwards. (Love the socks and shoes - really define the look, don't they?)

Gloria, an awful lot of these images you post seem like Kiwanis or Shriner members goofing on dressing are they queer/trans history and more like ridiculing people who actually live the life.

But then, I feel the same way about a lot of cisssexual gay men doing drag.

Gina, true: I do post pix that could be hets being silly or mocking. Many of the images I post here come out of private estates and the people who sell them don't know their history. I don't consider them part of gay history (which is why they usually fall under a "just for fun" category here). I do, however, consider it part of the somewhat amorphous history of gender/gender roles/transvestism/crossdressing, if only because pix like these show (however unconscious their subjects) the universal impulse to step outside your own gender role.

On the other hand, I do have a tendancy to see sex in everything (and everything in sex). :)

Gloria, love your pics whatever their 'true' import.

Your question brings up an experience I had getting to know a good friend's husband. He is very straight and not at all narrow, and he was showing me pictures of his Navy days. A surprising number of his pics were him and his friends in drag (for Hallowe'en) In his case, I am sure it was just goofy fun. This would certainly fall within your "universal impulse".

(However, some of his buddies were really very good, and I have my suspicions, having lived in San Diego...)

I'm guessing "goofing off" with shoes like those.

I suppose you could crop the photo , enlarge the adult/child couple in the background, and somebody would interpret it as a pedophile's dream shot. Or, likelier, it supports the "goofing off" explanation.
However it is, I enjoy your posts. Keep them coming, please.
And I surely hope the shorter guy was careful with that cigar.
