So the Australian Broadcasting Company has just announced what may be the most exciting TV news ever?
It's all systems go as filming starts on Outland, ABC1's new six -part comedy series. Produced by Princess Pictures (Summer Heights High and John Safran's Race Relations), Outland orbits around a gay science-fiction fan club, and the lives, loves and never-ending dramas of its members.
This means that we're about to get three hours of queers discussing who's hotter, Matt Smith or David Tennant, right??? Because I think I would watch that on an infinite loop! #soexcited!!
On top of that, the folks behind Outland saw our post yesterday on ScarletBetch.com and want you as an extra for the final episode's Gay Pride scene! The gig involves you and all your friends dressing up in your gay pride-est garb and hanging out on set until they need you to rage in the background! Totally awesome! Totally Gervais!
The only downside is that you need to avoid wearing science fiction costumes (think of it as a super-heroic sacrifice on your part) and, if you're paying attention to your surroundings, there will be spoilers (Please report them back to me!)!!!!
Oh, also, you have to be in Melbourne on the 26th!
We're looking for volunteers to be the crowd at a Gay Pride event for the TV series Outland, "The best gay and lesbian science fiction fan club themed comedy series ever."
Date: Friday 26 November 2010
Place: Catani Gardens
Between Beaconsfield Parade and Fitzroy Street, St Kilda
Tram 96 or 16
Time: from 8 am (it's an all day shoot and filming will begin early)
BUT please NO science fiction character costumes or the colour PURPLE (unless it's part of the rainbow).
You don't need to dress up to come along, but feel free to be awesome.
Please come dressed in your outfit, as there aren't any change rooms in the park.
Bring: Flags, banners and colourful stuff.
Picnic food, games, friends, family and pets.
(NO alcohol because it's a public park.)
"I'm Fabulous" is your subject and include your name, contact phone number and description of your outlandish outfit (but there's nothing wrong with being outlandish on the inside).
Or RSVP on Facebook. The invitation is on the ABC TV wall or under the Events tab.
Or just come along.
On the day: When you arrive, head to the registration desk (it will be obvious).
Here you need to sign a release form that says you're OK with being filmed.
Everyone who takes part must sign a release.
As filming TV isn't always as fun as watching TV, there will be some slow times when the gorgeous crowd isn't needed. So picnics, games and friends will make the non-filming times fun. You'll also be able to do some star spotting and see how a TV show is made.
Outland is based on the only short film to play the Melbourne Queer Film Festival and the World Science Fiction Convention. It stars Christine Anu, Ben Gerrard , Paul Ireland, Adam Richard, Toby Truslove, is written by John Richards (Boxcutters) and Adam Richard, directed by Kevin Carlin (Newstopia, BoyTown, The Extra) and produced by Princess Pictures (Summer Heights High, We Can Be Heroes, John Safran's Race Relations, I Love You Too).
Volunteers will be part of the final episode of Outland, so you will see some spoilers.
Please feel free send this information to your friends. The bigger the crowd, the more fabulous it'll be.
Further information: OutlandPride@gmail.com or call Princess Pictures on 9524 2726.
