So you'll see something new starting soon

Today we're going to try a new advertising technique as a trial and I'll be interested in Projectors' reactions.

We're going to put in an adverpost for the Association of Private Sector Colleges & Universities. It will be in the second spot down in the left column. If it's a success, we'll consider doing this for other organizations. The post will stay in the second spot until their ad run ends.

Let me know what you think about this. Is this something you're willing to see on Bilerico? It takes money to run the site and our advertising revenue is minimal right now. They're paying a good chunk to run an adverpost (almost enough to pay for Alex's salary for a month), so keep that in mind.

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea? Suggestions? Critiques? Let us know.

As long as ads are not obnoxious or annoying I don't mind. By all means improve revenue.

That seems wrong. But if it's super well marked as advertising and you really need the money, it might be OK. Lifehacker has such posts; they have a visual set-off from the other posts, as well as being marked "Sponsored post".

It does say "Sponsored post" at the very top.

I agree with November. Publications are folding right and left. The sports section of the L.A. Times is now reduced to the size of a supermarket flyer, and is printed on the sleaziest grade of newsprint in the universe. We want to see Bilerico survive. Better read than dead.

Fine. I say we take the money and run for the opposite goal line.

how about the long awaited update on this website that looks like it's from the mid 90's?

just sayin...

Personally, I am distrustful of for-profit colleges. However, I do believe that ad revenue is important, and I very much want to see Bilerico continue.

As long as the adverpost is flagged as "Sponsored" we can be extra alert, if we choose to read it.
