Today while enjoying my weekly meal at Café Gratitude, a mostly raw vegan restaurant in Berkeley, my waiter, spoon-runs-away-with-spoon.jpgChange, handed me a cool new coloring book called Sometimes the Spoon Runs Away with Another Spoon.

Yes, a coloring book. Inside the coloring book are princesses who build rocket ships and monsters who like ballet and jewelry. One picture is of a Grumpy of the Seven Dwarves who is no longer grumpy since he borrowed Snow White's pumps.

My two favorites are a wedding cake with two brides on top and an inscription that says "Marriage is So Gay" and another that says "Sometimes the Prince rides off into the Sunset with the Boy Next Door." The latter has a photo of a prince on his horse holding hands with another young lad on a horse. Don't ya wish we had these kinds of coloring books around when we were kids?

Well, kids today are lucky that Jacinta Bunnell is around to create some coloring books that reflect us gender-variant and queer folk. Jacinta has another coloring book called "Girls Not Chicks" with great images of princesses rescuing themselves and the inscription on Peter the Pumpkin Eater's Pumpkin House is "Don't Get Stuck In Someone Else's Pumpkin." These are great alternatives to Barbie and Bernstein Bears coloring books.

Coloring Contest - Win a Free Love Warriors Book

I'm so smitten by these cool coloring books that I'm announcing a coloring contest. Get yourself a copy of this coloring book and scan and e-mail me your best "Marriage is So Gay" or "Sometimes the Prince rides off into the Sunset with the Boy Next Door." I'll choose a coloring contest winner and the best artist will receive a copy of my new book Love Warriors: The Rise of the Marriage Equality Movement and Why it Will Prevail.

Send your scanned colored image to davina@davinakotulski.com and include your name, snail mail address, phone #, and e-mail address in the body of the e-mail.

You can get your copy of "Sometimes the Spoon Runs Away with Another Spoon" at http://www.cafegratitude.com or at http://www.girlsnotchicks.com

Contest ends December 21st, so get your copy ASAP.

Please remember to think equality for the holidays and support your LGBTQ authors, artists, and businesses. Also check out HRC's ranking for businesses so you can know who has been naughty and who has been nice to us LGBTQ folks.

Awesome contest! As you can quite imagine. We love it. We wish we had those coloring books growing up too.
