Transgender Libertarian Ron Paul supporter and gun rights activist Nicki Stallard joins us to talk guns and politics. We'll talk with Nicki about the Pink Pistols, what it is to be a transwoman on the political right in this country, what can and should be done to honor the Second Amendment but still prevent (or at least deter) mentally unstable people and criminals from being able to buy guns and ammo legally, and more. Plus news, rants, and fun with Becky and Mike!

It's all live at 7pm eastern on The Rebecca Juro Show!

Um... sorry, but I think I have to not listen to this show by virtue of valuing my mental health. Don't care if she's trans or pink, a wingnut is a wingnut is a wingnut.

Actually Gina, Nicki isn't really a wingnut. She's not as hard-right as you probably think, and in fact, not as far to the right as I thought when I first contacted her to guest on the show. Sure we disagree on many things, but we also agree on a lot more than I ever expected to. For example, she supports the passage of ENDA and the hate crimes bill. Interestingly, we seemed to diverge more on guns than on social issues.

I hope you'll reconsider Gina. The interview is worth a listen, and the other hour and a half of the show is pretty good too, if I do say so myself! :)

Ron Paul + 'gun rights'... no thank you. How can someone support Paul and also support ENDA? No, a waste of time hun. There are lots of other trans people very worth speaking with who aren't on the standard carrousel of talking heads and don't spout this crap.

Gina,

MY wife, a transwoman, successfully repelled an armed attack, only because she was armed.

ALL politics aside, my only goal is absolute equality and safety for the LGBTQQIAAP community.

It is EVERYONES' RIGHT, should they wish, to protect themselves by whatever means they choose.

Or, do you believe you should just spread your legs at your rapist's request, or lie down and die when a 'hater' wants to smash your head with a brick?

(full disclosure: I do not represent any "gun group", nor do I own any myself).

One of Bilerico's Indiana readers is a trans Libertarian teabagger.

There are a great many queer/lgbt people on all sides of the political spectrum who value the 2nd Amendment. I'm a socially liberal centrist politically, and I legally carry a handgun nearly everyday of my life.

I have done so since my family were attacked in a queer bashing that the police couldn't get to in time to stop. A crime that our attacker got off without time for, in large part because he only attacked some queers who were new in town.

Along the way I discovered that while I will likely never be good enough to compete with a pistol, I really enjoy the meditative act of target shooting, and I've taught my share of fellow LGBT people how to use firearms in the years since I started carrying mine.

While LGBT rights are typically the domain of the political left and 2nd Amendment rights typically that of the political right, we need to not equate being pro-firearms rights with being anti-gay. Likewise, supporting full equality for LGBT people doesn't have to mean supporting all politically left policies, including gun control.
