What a waste of taxpayer money. What happened to making the economy the first priority? What about jobs? The only people getting jobs out of this will be the lawyers the government has to hire to fight for Republican legislators' bigotry.
The three top House Republican leaders voted Wednesday to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court, requiring the hiring of outside legal counsel at a potential cost of millions of dollars as they are pushing for spending cuts across hundreds of domestic programs.
The House has the authority to defend the statute on its own. Staff who attended the meeting said House general counsel Kerry Kirschner told the participants that he will hire outside legal counsel because his staff is too small to handle such major litigation.
Depending on the hourly rate of the counsel, the number of cases challenging the statute - now at 10 - and the work involved, the cost could reach into the millions of dollars.
Your government at work. Against you. Once again.
