I don't agree. Sometimes we have to protect ourselves first. Not everyone lives in a safe situation and we can not judge it. I would rather people be safe and come out if they are able.

She was talking about people in the news business.

The Guardian story, she says, is misleading; she was not talking about Anderson Cooper, and she has a more nuanced view of the ethics of coming out than this quote makes it seem. Read her blog post on the matter.

Thanks for the link, but I liked the Maddow quote better before!
