Other than our friend, Josh, no one else from home has visited us in DC. This weekend, though, Jerame got an early birthday gift; his mom came to visit for the weekend.

It's her first trip to the nation's capitol photo-4.JPGand quite a few other "firsts" too - including the first time on a subway, her first sushi, and her first Salvadorian food so far. We went to a few landmarks and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History yesterday, and today's plans include brunch with friends at the French restaurant that hosted our last DC meetup and a trip to the Cherry Blossom Festival.

I'm actually closer to Jerame's mom than I am with my own, so it's exciting to have her here. It's a welcome little slice of home. Even though we've got a ton of friends in DC and we're always busy anymore, I still get a wee bit homesick occasionally. This ought to tide both Jerame and I over for a while.

Posting might be light today while we're out playing tour guide and comment moderation might be a little slower than usual. If you sign up for an account, you don't have to wait for an editor to approve your comment. There's another photo of Jerame in front of the White House after the jump.

Even though this shot is a little janked up, I still like it. He wasn't supposed to start walking toward me when I told him to turn around, but I rather enjoy the old 110 look.

Hey! Joe and I came to see you!

You guys were only here a few hours & you live in Columbus, OHIO. Don't try to Pretend to be a Hoosier, Mitch. You abdicated the position. !! :)

I hope you all have a wonderful time! I dream of seeing the Cherry Blossoms someday so I am a little jealous!

We'll come. Sometime soon. Planning a commitment ceremony. Lots of details.

But we love DC.

Here's a particularly Hoosier thing: the pointed-edge of the IMN Pei-designed East Gallery of the NMA is (I think) made of Indiana limestone, and its edge is oft-rubbed for good luck. So much so that it's worn a little thin right at eye level.

We have simple pleasures. God knows we get no pleasure from politics lately.

This story makes no sense if Jerame's mom is not a Hoosier. OH well.

Go Dawgs!
