I was browsing eBay for goodies last week when I came across this beautiful photo. Naturally, I grabbed it to share here. The image nagged at me - something about the lanky man getting hugged looked so familiar.
A History Mystery: W.H. Auden Photo(s)
Could it be, or was it just my imagination, that this was a home photo of no one other than brilliant American gay poet, W.H. Auden? The date makes it possible. I googled images of Auden in his youth and found this one, showing him with his partner of many years, talented gay author Christopher Isherwood.
The part is on a different side, but a little more research showed that Auden did play with his hair and doesn't always comb the same way. What do you think? Was that a rare home photo of Auden? By the time I got back to it, it had already sold for a mere $40!
