San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, who in a tearful twist shifted his opposition to gay marriage to support his lesbian daughter back in 2007,5521415270_54f8535c60.jpg publicly endorsed lesbian District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis to replace him next year:

Sanders says that he trusts Dumanis, getting to know her after a 20 year friendship, claiming that she is the only candidate with "experience as a chief executive of a public agency." He said in an interview:

I think she's got a tremendous range of experience, from being a prosecutor to being a judge to running a large law office like the District Attorney's Office... I think what you find in the mayor's job, it's not being a legislator, it's not being a council member, it's being a chief executive because you're actually running the city and I think she's the only one I know that's got that experience.

Other than being a lesbian and one disagreement about whether or not firefighters should be included in Sanders' June 2012 ballot initiative that would end guaranteed pensions for all new city hires except police officers (receiving 401(k)s instead), the Mayor does not see Dumanis' politics as too different from his own. Sanders said:

When you're looking at a candidate for mayor, the next mayor of the city, I'm looking at someone who I think would do a good job, who has the integrity to do it and who understands the major issues. I think, absent the firefighters, we're very close on every other issue. I think you look at the totality of the candidate.

Looks like more of the same!
