Target Releases 'It Gets Better' Video

Yesterday Target released its own contribution to the "It Gets Better" project. The nearly nine-minute video features around a dozen Target "team members" who share their stories about being bullied in high school.

It's probable that the new video was orchestrated to deter the bad press Target's been receiving this year about its stance on LGBT issues, sparked by a large campaign donation to the anti-gay organization MN Forward last year. A "Diversity Video" the company released in April was also widely speculated to be a public relations move for Target.

It could also just be a sign that Target's "evolving" on LGBT issues, too. That'd be news, since as of three weeks ago, they were pretty much undecided on their feelings about the community.

Check out the video:

Yes, coming at this junction, so long after the suicides, it is PR bs and nothing more. If Target was serious they never would have contributed to the right wingers they did or, at the very least, would have been less defensive about it.

Moreover, it's yet another IGB video for 'LGBT' people which has no trans participation (whoopee, one of the women was married to a trans guy) which says...? Target doesn't hire trans people (even though I know of trans people who work there)? It's not a safe environment in which to be openly trans? Trans kids (who have a higher suicide rate than any other group) don't really matter, are extremely rare and we didn't even realize what message that exclusion actually gives a young trans person.

I found that video offensive, and laughable. Stereotype much Target?. as a gay man I was mortified by this clip. Target FAIL!

god though while I see where the previous comments are coming from angle wise, way to demean our LGBT people in the vid.

until we stop infighting we will never be what we need to be to take the players down.

Ummm... I call BOVINE FECES! This is nothing but damage control and a transparent attempt to obscure the facts that Target still doesn't give a damn about our community, except how much money they can bilk out of us for their over-priced Chinese crap. At least WalMart includes us in their anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, they make no pretense that they sell cheap, plastic, Chinese crap, and I have yet to have a bad customer service experience there... even here in KC MO, "The Buckle of the Bible Belt"... 'scuze me, I gotta go be sick now.

I'd just sum it this way...I'd forego the video altogether if Target would stop giving campaign donations to homo-hater politicians.
