From 1915, an emotional appeal to grant women the right to vote across the United States. The women shrouded by darkness on the east coast, appealing to lady justice to shed her light upon them and bring them relief from the degradations of social inequity, are particularly haunting. Simple and direct, the image speaks to the universal craving for equality.
