Poor Peter LaBarbera... He'll no longer be allowed to give donors tax deductions for fueling his anti-gay hatred. Porno Pete's Americans for Truth about Homosexuality (AFTAH) had it's 501(c)3 status revoked in tax-forms.jpgMay of 2010 according to Ex-Gay Watch:

The reason for this action is listed by the reporting organization Guidestar as a "failure to file a Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-N, or 990-PF for 3 consecutive years." These forms are required of legitimate non-profit organizations for review by the IRS and the public.
...
According to the IRS documentation on revocations (PDF), AFTAH can no longer be considered a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, and there is no process for appeal. Donations made to them before 6/10/2011 are still deductible by donors, though any income after revocation may be taxed and require filing of a federal return. LaBarbera appears to have been aware of all this, as the donations section of the AFTAH website no longer claims tax-exempt status.

In 2009, 68% of AFTAH's donations went directly into Pete's pocket as his salary. In late 2010, AFTAH was designated an official "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

wonder why he didn't file the forms? not that the diminishing of AFTAH will be a loss to any living soul.

I'm surprised that he hasn't already called the Whaambulance to complain about how he's being scapegoated. I mean, he's doing God's work here! He shouldn't be forced to, like, comply with man-made laws or anything, right?

Tom: I'd be willing to bet that at least part of his reason for not filing is that he'd have to disclose how much of the donated funds are going straight into overhead,i.e. his pocket versus how much is being spent on the AAFTAH's actual stated activities. People tend to take a dim view of charities and non-profits that line their own pockets first--even christian bigots.

Guess he's going to have to fund his next visit to the Folsom Street Fair out of his own pocket now.
