An earthquake hit DC this afternoon, but everyone at Rancho Bilerico is safe and sound (except the dog who still looks like she's going to jump out of her skin!). I've checked in with several area contributors and it doesn't look like anyone was hurt.
I was putting on shoes to go get something to eat when it hit; since I was standing one foot at the time, it knocked me on my butt. I was able to grab a vase and the TV before they bumped off the shelves. Since it was my first earthquake, I didn't realize what was happening until it was almost over.
Most of the LGBT organizations were dismissed early. Staffers at National Stonewall Democrats, National Coalition for LGBT Health, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, National Center for Transgender Equality, Immigration Equality, the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, and Out for Work were all sent home.
Between today's earthquake and Sunday's expected landing of Hurricane Irene, somewhere Pat Robertson is getting an anti-gay religious conspiracy theory ready to trot out.
