Adam Polaski has made a big splash in LGBT news with his in-depth reporting, but his internship is wrapping up this week. help-wanted.jpgYou know what that means! It's time to find a new intern to help with running the site.

A journalism major in college, Adam focused on reporting and research this summer as his primary concerns. During the spring semester, Intern Jake's focus was on editing and site management. Both got college credit for their duties as part of the Editorial Team and they're leaving some big shoes to fill.

If you know you can handle the pressure of working with the crazy Bilerico team, you've got an itch to learn how to use the web for blogging and online activism, and you're a reliable self-starter, shoot me an email with your resume.

There's no pay, but students can earn college credit and experience. Non-students can gain skills they can use to get a job in the blogosphere or to improve their own site. Internships are available in marketing and communications.

Communications Internship Opportunity

Bilerico Project is seeking an unpaid communications intern to work roughly 20 hours per week the fall semester. Since this is an online communications opportunity, location is not specific.

The communications intern will help facilitate messaging, build media contacts, copyediting, and research in multiple arenas.

Duties include:

  • Compiling and organizing news clips, op-eds, studies, and reports
  • Copyediting
  • Updating press and media contact lists
  • Conducting research and compiling statistics for editorial and web materials
  • Occasionally drafting statements, op-eds and press releases
  • Comment moderation
  • Assisting the editorial team with daily operations
  • Compiling a style guide for editorial use

Qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong internet skills
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • Ability to be a team player and to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and dedication
  • Interest in LGBT policy and pop culture
  • Strong knowledge of grassroots organizing
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Journalism or organizational communications background
  • Basic knowledge of HTML
  • Knowledge of social-networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube
  • Graphic design sensibility
  • Video editing knowledge a plus

Internship applications are currently being accepted for the following time periods:

Fall Term 2011: Early September - Late January (start and end dates are flexible)

Marketing Internship Opportunity

Bilerico Project is seeking an unpaid marketing intern to work roughly 20 hours per week the fall semester. Since this is an online marketing opportunity, location is not specific.

The marketing intern will help facilitate creating promotional, social networking and advertising plans as well as work with other bloggers and journalists to do joint promotions.

Duties include:

  • Creating promotional and public relations campaigns
  • Assisting with the organization's viral media and social networking operations
  • Updating Bilerico contributor social networking information
  • Advertising purchases
  • Assisting Bilerico contributors learn best practices for social media
  • Work with communications team for mass media outreach
  • Assisting the editorial team with daily operations
  • Tracking visitor information

Qualifications include:

  • Established Twitter, Google+, and Facebook accounts
  • Strong internet skills
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • Ability to be a team player and to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and dedication
  • Interest in LGBT policy and pop culture
  • The ability to work independently outside of an office environment
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Marketing or public relations background
  • Basic knowledge of HTML
  • Knowledge of social-networking sites like StumbleUpon, Reddit, and YouTube
