Looks like GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum got a warm welcome at an appearance at Penn State SANTORUM-eating-ice-cream.jpgyesterday evening. While the rightwing nutjob was speaking to a college Republican group, the LGBT campus organization protested outside - and were unexpectedly joined by other campus student groups.

Alyssia Motah, president of the LGBTA Student Alliance, organized the protest after hearing news of Santorum's impending visit, feeling that it was something she had a responsibility to do, since hers is "the activist LGBT organization on campus".
...
Many joined the movement, even those primarily unaffiliated with the LGBT movement.

Brian Flowers, president of the ACLU of Penn State, said he'd heard about the protest on his way to the meeting of his own organization, and decided to bring members of the ACLU along with him to the corridor outside room 106. He said that rallying against Santorum was something he could "definitely" get behind.
...
Scott Brown, the newly elected president of the Atheists and Agnostics association, and some other members of the club, came to the protest in a similar vein to lend a hand in the fight against Santorum.

Warms the cockles of your heart, doesn't it?

Yes, it's heartwarming to see other groups joining up; the more the merrier, for sure. However...Rick Santorum? Eh. He's a right-wing nutjob, we all know that, but he's no threat to us. No way his campaign survives more than another month or two, and then he'll be endorsing one of the other freaks--and it's those loons we need to be worrying about. It's against Perry, Bachman, and maybe Palin we need to gather our natural allies. Even Romney, maybe, if his conversion from moderate to moon-howler is sincere. It's great to see different groups of good conscience band together to protest Santorum, but let's make damned sure they're around for the real dangers.

Laurie, his campaign won't survive but his rhetoric and philosophy will, in other candidate's campaigns. It is important to protest against him, his ideas and his rhetoric.

That pic of Santorum eating a nice big cone full of santorum (a frothy mix of lube and fecal material) just never gets old. It's really sad that ppl like him get taken seriously, but really, there is a huge chunk of the public that thinks just like him (and his twin, Mike Pence).
