I tried to find some history on this 1976 issue of the Gay Blade, and it turns out there is a lot to know. There was a girly magazine by this same name in the 1950s, published by a company called Bachelor, Inc.

But this Gay Blade was by and for the gay community. According to RainbowHistory.Org, it was first published in 1969 and eventually underwent another transformation when it changed its name and gained a place in gay history as the legendary Washington Blade.
