Occupy-LA-march-in-WeHo-231x300.jpgAn LGBT march in solidarity with the Occupy movement is planned for Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. The march will start at Plummer Park in West Hollywood, go down Santa Monica Blvd to the Matthew Shepard Triangle at Crescent Heights, have a brief rally there, then march back to Plummer Park for speeches. The Metropolitan Community Church/Los Angeles' Social Justice Ministry is the primary organizer, working with members of Occupy LA.

Last month, I wrote an extensive piece on the Occupy/99% movement and why LGBTs should care - including the fact that as official second class citizens without job protections, we can be refused jobs and promotions and fired without cause simply for being LGBT. And yet there is no steady or dramatic push to pass the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act through Congress.

It should also be noted that there are LGBTs among the 1% who support the 99% movement for economic justice - people such as voice over artist Ben Patrick Johnson who has visited the Occupy LA encampment.
